WorkSource Montgomery Appoints Michael Covin as Director of the New Mobilize Montgomery Federal Workforce Career Center

New Center Opening This Fall to Support Displaced Federal Workers and Contractors

WorkSource Montgomery is proud to welcome Michael Covin as the newly appointed Director of the Mobilize Montgomery Federal Workforce Career Center (FWCC)—a new resource launching Fall 2025 to support displaced federal workers, contractors, and professionals impacted by workforce shifts. Located at the Wheaton American Job Center, this dedicated space will serve as a comprehensive hub for displaced federal workers, contractors, and others navigating career transitions due to federal workforce reductions.

Michael Covin is a seasoned workforce development leader with than 15 years of experience helping individuals successfully re-enter the workforce, shift careers, and position themselves for long-term success.

Throughout his career, he has led national and local efforts focused on advancing employment outcomes for professionals across sectors—connecting jobseekers with employer partnerships, training opportunities, and personalized support. He has served in senior roles with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Job Corps, Gwinnett County (GA), and the D.C. Department of Employment Services, where he strengthened Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) compliance and expanded access to skills-based hiring pathways.

His approach is jobseeker-centered, with a passion for helping individuals—including those with deep experience or advanced degrees—translate their strengths into new, fulfilling opportunities.

“I’ve always been drawn to helping people see the value in their past experience—and then connecting them to the resources that allow them to pivot, upskill, or rebuild,” said Covin. “It’s about walking with people through change.”

What the FWCC Will Offer

Whether you’re a senior federal executive, mid-career professional, or contractor impacted by recent cuts, the Federal Workforce Career Center will provide a full range of specialized services, including:

  • Executive Coaching tailored for high-level professionals, including C-suite leaders and members of the federal Senior Executive Service
  • Federal Resume Assistance, including guidance on converting to private-sector formats
  • Job Placement Support and targeted employer recruitment events
  • Professional Development and training programs to help you grow or pivot
  • Entrepreneurial Coaching for those considering self-employment or consulting work

Why This Matters

Montgomery County is home to over 70,000 federal employees, and in just the first half of 2025, more than 4,000 local residents lost their jobs due to federal workforce reductions. These are not just numbers—they represent neighbors, families, and long-time public servants facing a difficult transition.

“Michael brings the leadership and empathy this moment calls for,” said Anthony Featherstone, Executive Director of WorkSource Montgomery. “The launch of the FWCC is part of our ongoing commitment to stand with federal workers and contractors—and ensure they don’t have to navigate this change alone.”
